A few days ago I was sitting in a coffee shop, writing in my journal and enjoying a time of prayer and reflection. I didn’t have my “normal” bible with me, but I have an electronic one in my phone. When I navigated to the bible application and opened it, it opened at this amazing promise of God:
Psalm 91, 13-16: “You will tread upon the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent. “Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. He will call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. With long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation.”
Wow, that really took my breath away. What a display of eagerness and willingness on God’s side to bless those who love him and trust him. God wants to bless. God wants to protect, rescue and guide. He is willing to help. He wants us to trust him. I must admit that every now and again I forget about this generous and loving nature of God. In those times I tend to see God as one who is placing all kinds of difficult demands on me and who is very hard to please, because I am very hard to please with my own performance. But that is a wrong view of God. God’s nature is love, generosity, abundance… I serve an amazing God. This has really encouraged me. Hope it encourages you too.
