The greatest Need of the Christian Church

Now with Easter behind us the next major Christian Feast is approaching – the feast of Pentecost. It marks the day when the followers of Jesus were baptized with the Holy Spirit for the very first time (Acts 2). They had been following Jesus for 3 years, they had witnessed the crucifixion and the resurrection of Jesus and they had received the best possible training you could think of – from the incarnate Son of God himself. They had come to believe in him as their personal Savior and Lord and they had received the Holy Spirit when Jesus breathed on them (John 20:22). They also had received the great commission to go and make disciples of all the nations (Matt. 28:18-20). And yet something was still missing. What was missing? That which is missing in far too many of our modern churches today.

Luke tells us in Acts 1, 4-8 what it was: “On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptised with water, but in a few days you will be baptised with the Holy Spirit. So when they met together, they asked him, Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel? He said to them: It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

When they received this baptism on the day of Pentecost their lives and their witness were totally transformed. They suddenly were filled with a supernatural power that enabled them to do the humanly impossible: they were bold in their preaching far beyond what their human personalities would account for, they were filled with joy in the midst of suffering and persecution, they were walking in the miraculous power of God and multitudes were converted as a result of their witness. As I think about the state of the modern church in the western hemisphere I can’t but notice – this vital element of the Holy Spirit’s presence and power has widely gone missing. We desperately need it back. I am deeply convinced that the greatest need of the Church today is another Pentecost. We need to seek God’s face and ask for a fresh outpouring of His Holy Spirit. Jesus, please baptize us anew with the Holy Spirit as you have done throughout the centuries in revival. This is, I believe, the greatest need of your church in Ireland today! Amen

Holy Week Activities

Children’s Easter Club – Tuesday and Wednesday Afternoon

At 2:30 pm on Tuesday and Wednesday the church doors open for “The Easter Naz Cookery and Crafts camp” for children of primary school age. With songs, games, cookery, crafts and bible stories it will be two afternoons packed out with fun for the children. To book a place or to get information on the event please contact Betty Stevenson on 086 350 4465 or via email at thenazcookeryandcraftscamp@gmail.com. We will be asking for a contribution towards the running costs of 3 € per child.

Good Friday Communion Service

On Good Friday we will have a short, reflective communion service starting at 7:30 pm. Rev. Steven Morley will be preaching and we will celebrate holy communion together. We moved the service to a later time to accommodate those who are working on Fridays. Come and join us for this special time.

Easter Morning Celebration

On Easter Sunday we invite everyone to a light breakfast in the church, starting at 10 am. Later we will have a family service at 10:30 am involving all the young and old ones in the church to celebrate the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ together. After the morning service everyone is invited to take part in an Easter Egg Hunt on the area around the church. In the evening Pastor Erich will be preaching at the Evening Service at 7pm. May the Risen Christ be glorified during this week and may many who don’t know him yet, come to a personal encounter with the one who suffered and died and was raised from the dead out or love for them. Thanking God for the past weekend – looking ahead to Palm Sunday and the United Prayer Night

As I look back on this past weekend my heart is full of gratitude. God has given us fantastic weather, the Teen Challenge Graduation went really well, and we had a wonderful Sunday. Noel Kenny’s talk as well as the two testimonies of the Graduates are online to download and listen to. And the sermon of Sunday Morning is available as well. In the Evening Service Lilly King’s home group took charge of the service. The members shared what God is doing in their lives which was really encouraging to hear. Looking ahead to the coming Sunday I would like to draw your attention to the United Prayer Night that will be held at our church at 7 pm. Every Christian in the Area is invited to join us to pray for this area, to pray for Ireland, and to pray for revival. I look forward to a wonderful time in God’s presence.

Tiglin Graduation in our Church this Saturday

I am happy to announce that for the first time in history the Teen Challenge Graduation Ceremony will take place in the Nazarene Community Church Greystones. The big event will take place on Saturday, 24th of March, starting at 4 pm. The first part will consist of a Worship Service with a dynamic message brought to us by Noel Kenny, pastor of Liberty Church in Dublin. After a break for tea and some refreshments the actual graduation will take place, with testimonies of the graduating students and the presentation of the graduation certificates. We look forward to a great day of celebrating what God has done in the lives of the students and what he is doing through the work of Teen Challenge Ireland.

As I was working on transferring the files from my computer to the church server and then uploading them on the website I was listening in on the Talk Mike Williams gave about the power of Fear. It has really spoken to me on Sunday Night and again today. What great biblical teaching and applications we enjoyed! Thanks again to Mike Williams for his availability and faithfulness in listening to God and bringing his messages to us. God really met with us on that weekend. Hope all those who listen to the sermons online will be blessed as well.

The NAZ is Away this weekend – no services in our church on the 18th of March

United Prayer Night starting to take off

Last Sunday Evening we met for another United Prayer Night in our church at 7 pm. We have set apart the first Sunday Evening Service of each month to prayer and worship, calling all Christians in Greytones and its vicinity to seek God’s face together. So far attendance has been very low. Still I feel a great burden for united prayer across denominational boundaries. This last meeting now was really different. A significant number of guys from the Tiglin Teen Challenge Center joined us as well as the pastors of the Community Church and the Presbyterian Church and we had a great time of Prayer and Worship together. I believe that God wants to move in our community and in this country. And the preparation for a greater move of God has always been sincere prayer on behalf of his people. So please come and join in at one of the next occasions if you are a Christian living somewhere near Greystones. The next United Prayer Night is scheduled for the 1st of April, 7 pm in our church.

Continuing the series on the Life and Character of Jesus

This Sunday I plan to pick up the series on the Life and Character of Jesus where I left it before the little break we had for Paul Dempsey and the DCM. I will conclude the section on the self-perception of Jesus, showing that he had a three-fold understanding of himself as the promised messiah: He was the promised anointed prophet (Luke 4, 14-21), we looked at that one on the 12th of February. He also was the anointed suffering servant with a priestly calling, sacrificing his own life for humanity (which we looked at on the 19th of February). This Sunday we are going to look at him as the promised anointed King, ushering in the kingdom of God and promising to come back in the clouds as the Eternal King who will be the judge of heaven and earth. Look forward to seeing some of those who read this on Sunday!

Paul Dempsey will represent the Dublin Christian Mission this Sunday
